Blue Prosperity Fiji (BPF) is seeking to hire a Communications Coordinator to support a growing team. BPF is a government-led program to support a healthy ocean, thriving communities, and a brighter future in Fiji. Led by the Government of Fiji, the BPF program will incorporate community consultations, scientific research, and traditional knowledge to sustainably manage 100% of Fiji's ocean space and designate 30% in fully protected areas while supporting ocean industries and fisheries management.
The BPF Communications Coordinator will be instrumental in enhancing public awareness and engagement with BPF's activities. The coordinator will clarify the program’s objectives, methodologies, and ways for public involvement, as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). A key aspect of the role involves effective communication with target audiences to shape Blue Prosperity to build community awareness and support for marine stewardship and management related to Marine Spatial Planning, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Fisheries.

About the position
Citizenship: Fijian citizenship.
Language Proficiency: Fluent in English; proficiency ITaukei in Hindi preferred.
Cultural Competence: Strong understanding and adherence to cultural values.
Government Relations: Familiarity with government communication practices and protocols. A well-established network with Fiji government officials and an understanding of government protocols and processes is beneficial.
Cross-Cultural Collaboration: Comfortable working in a diverse, cross-cultural environment as part of a team headquartered in the United States.
Employment Terms: Full-time, 1-year contract (40 hours/week), with a strong possibility of renewal contingent upon the continuation of the program (anticipated duration of 5 years).
Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the BPF Country Manager and Waitt Institute Communications Manager. Works closely with the Waitt Institute Communications Director, the wider BPF team, and other contracted communications support.
Holidays: Eligibility for all public holidays in Fiji.
Travel Requirements: Flexibility to travel domestically and internationally as required.
Duties and responsibilities:
Develop and implement communication strategies for BPF in close coordination with the Waitt Institute Communications Manager.
Maintain effective collaboration with Waitt Institute, government bodies, and NGOs.
Manage BPF’s digital presence, including website and social media platforms.
Organize and promote BPF events.
Engage with media and stakeholders to boost program visibility.
Monitor and report on communications metrics.
Support other program activities as needed.
Minimum qualifications, skills, and experience:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
Preferred: 3+ year(s) in communications or digital marketing.
Proficiency in English and iTaukei, Hindi proficiency advantageous.
Understanding of Fijian culture, environmental issues, and government protocols.
Skills: Writing, web content management, social media, event planning.
Attributes: Independent, team-oriented, strategic problem-solving, detail-focused.
Competencies: Cultural awareness, adaptability, teamwork.
